We begin our journey to the Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C., overnighting at the Hampton Inn in Barboursville, WV. Dinner is on your own tonight at the adjacent Cracker Barrel.

Day 2:
This morning we depart for our nation’s Capital – Washington DC. This afternoon, we will check into the Crowne Plaza Old Town Alexandria for the next three nights. Receive a warm welcome by our area tour guide and take some time to freshen up before dinner at the historic Gatsby’s Tavern. Following dinner, enjoy a guided tour of the tavern and museum and learn of the many prominent patrons who frequented the Tavern, such as George Washington, John Adams, James Madison and many others! Day 3:
After breakfast this morning, we will meet our guide and depart for a day of touring our Nation’s Capital. Enjoy a visit and walking tour of the U.S. Capitol, the Library of Congress and the White House Visitors Center. Then enjoy a windshield tour of DC with views of many historic sites such as the White House, Washington Monument, Supreme Court, the National Cathedral, and Embassy Row. If time permits, we’ll make picture stops at some of the Monuments. Later this afternoon, we’ll visit the renowned Newseum. A 250,000-square-foot museum of news offering visitors an experience that blends five centuries of news history with up-to-the-second technology and hands-on exhibits. If you would rather, you may visit one of the Smithsonian Museums instead of the Newseum. Tonight, enjoy an early dinner before an evening of sightseeing featuring our national’s most beloved memorials and monuments dramatically illuminated upon the Washington landscape. Highlights include the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, the Korean and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. (B, D)

Day 4:
This morning after breakfast, we’ll visit Arlington National Cemetery. Hop aboard the Tour Mobile for a tour around the Cemetery. View the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Eternal Flame marking John F Kennedy’s Grave and visit the Iwo Jima Memorial which is one of the largest bronze statues ever cast. Mid-day, we’ll venture out to Mount Vernon; home of President George Washington. Begin with a planned luncheon at the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant with all its colonial charm, colonial servers, and delicious regional and colonial cuisine. Then meet our guide for a tour of the grounds and buildings, followed by a self-guided tour through the home. This afternoon, board Potomac River Cruises for a scenic cruise along the Potomac River back to Old Town Alexandria. The remainder of the afternoon and evening are free to explore Old Town Alexandria at your leisure. Dine at one of the many wonderful restaurants this historic and vibrant town has to offer. (B, L)

Day 5:
Following breakfast, we’ll check out and depart for Gettysburg, PA., where we’ll visit Gettysburg National Military Park, Museum & Visitor Center, enjoying the exhibits, movie and Cyclorama. We’ll then meet our licensed tour guide and begin a Battlefield tour, where we will learn of the three famous days of 1863 – The Battle of Gettysburg, home to the largest battlefield shrine in North America, with over a 1,000 monuments and cannons. Later this afternoon, we’ll check into the Wyndham Hotel for a relaxing night’s stay. Take some time to freshen up before enjoying a delicious dinner at one of Gettysburg’s oldest and most historic dining establishments. Tonight, a very famous Living History Presenter will be joining us! (B, D)

Day 6:
We begin our journey home today, stopping at the Hampton Inn in Barboursville, W.V. Dinner is included tonight. (B, D)
