SUMMER ON MACKINAC ISLAND, MICHIGAN including two nights at the Grand Hotel
MACKINAC ISLAND—The Jewel of the Great Lakes! What is it about an island and vacations? It’s a natural fit! You have an Island where the automobile never replaced the horse and carriage. You have a Revolutionary era Fort where the British couldn’t permanently replace

Americans. You have Fudge Stores where box recipes never replaced our 19th Century recipes. You have a place to leave your routine, discover the rhythm of waves and horse-clops and a place that getting to is half the fun.
THE GRAND HOTEL—Ignite your passion for life! This resort is romantic, magical, timeless and unforgettable. Create a dream vacation that will eternally linger in your thoughts. Most people likely know about one specific Mackinac Island porch: the world’s longest porch at the Grand Hotel. The 660-foot porch is so massive you can spot it easily from the water as you approach the Island on the ferry. Two years ago, the famed porch received some updates that included new flooring and masonry work on the pillar bases – so even if you’ve explored before, you should explore it again!
Day 1, August 4
We begin our journey this morning, traveling northward, with our overnight at the beautiful Essenhaus Inn in Middlebury, Indiana. This evening, we will enjoy a delicious family-style Amish dinner at Indiana’s largest restaurant, Das Essenhaus. (D)

Day 3, August 6
We board the ferry to Mackinac Island this morning! Upon arrival, we will take a
horse-drawn tour of the island. There will then be time

Grand Hotel, the crown jewel of pristine secluded Mackinac Island, for the next two nights. The Grand Hotel has been America’s Summer Place since 1887.
This evening, dress in your finest for dinner off the menu in the Main Dining Room. After dinner, enjoy coffee service (demitasse) along with a lovely recital in the parlor. Later, choose from a nightly movie, the intimate piano bar in the cupola, or dancing to the full orchestra in the ballroom (Terrace Room). (B, D)
Day 4, August 7
Rise and Shine coffee service is available for early risers in the parlor this morning. A full breakfast is included in the Main Dining Room. Enjoy your day visiting the gardens, stables and galleries of the hotel. Or perhaps sit on the longest front porch in the world and enjoy a
