Day 2:
This morning, we depart for Atlanta, Georgia, a short distance from Stone Mountain. We will be joined by a local guide for a journey into Atlanta...from Civil War to Civil Rights to International Host City of the Centennial Olympic Games. We’ll drive through one of Atlanta’s most prestigious neighborhoods"Buckhead. The Governor’s Mansion is located here"and it is NOT the largest house on the block. Sit back and enjoy the old and new in Atlanta as our narrated tour follows Atlanta’s famous Peachtree Street from the suburbs to the heart of the city. We will stop at the National Museum of Patriotism, Atlanta’s newest downtown attraction and a unique venue dedicated to exploring and celebrating the history of patriotism in America through educational displays and interactive exhibits, including The Hall of Patriots, The Im-migrant Experience, World’s Largest Collection of Sweetheart Jewelry, The Olympic Experience, the only 9/11 Exhibit in the Southeast, Symbols of America and more. We’ll also be visiting the Georgia Aquarium, the world’s largest with over 8 million gallons of water " the top Atlanta attraction, right in the heart of downtown. Tonight, we’re attending Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, North America's most popular dinner attraction. A sweeping new musical score and sparkling lights provide the backdrop for a magical experience that presses the boundaries between fairy tale and spectacle. Medieval Times is celebrating its 25-year reign in North America. The founders first launched their unique idea for an 11th century-style dinner attraction on the Spanish island of Majorca in 1973. This imaginative new entertainment spot was inspired by the true medieval tradition of royal families inviting guests to a festival and feast to watch knights compete on horseback. (B,D)
Day 3:
This morning, we depart for Crossroads at Stone Mountain Park, where several demonstration crafters will create brilliant works of art right before your eyes, giving you a sense of Georgia history and culture in the 1870s. Many of the shops in Crossroads have numerous handmade crafts for sale, made by their very own demonstrators. Your senses will be engaged through a 3D film and spectacular 4th dimension special effects in Journey to the Center of the Earth, starring Brendan Frasier. This exciting new film follows three adventurers as they are plunged in a strange new world beneath the Earth’s surface where they embark on an amazing voyage and find incredible beauty amidst grave danger. Climb aboard the Scenic Railroad Train with a full size locomotive from the 1940s with open-air cars that will take you on a lively five-mile excursion around the mountain. Marvel at beautiful views of Stone Mountain and the surrounding landscape. Putter around on a miniature golf course based on the real-life adventures of the Great Locomotive Chase. There are a variety of unique gift shops featuring handmade crafts and signature Park souvenirs for every member of the family.
This afternoon, we’ll visit the rock’s top attraction, The Summit Skyride. This high-speed Swiss cable car provides a stunning view of the Confederate Memorial Carving as it transports guests more than 825 feet above ground to the top of Stone Mountain. From the top, experience amazing views of the Atlanta skyline, the Appalachian Mountains and more up to 60 miles away. The Memorial Carving depicts three Confederate heroes of the Civil War: Confederate President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee and Lt. General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The mountain is 825 feet tall and covers 583 acres. The top of the mountain is 1,683 feet above sea level. The entire carved surface of the Memorial Carving measures three acres, larger than a football field. The carving of the three men towers 400 feet above the ground, measures 90 by 190 feet, and is recessed 42 feet into the mountain. The deepest point of the carving is at Lee's elbow, which is 12 feet to the mountain's surface.
Dinner is included this evening before we return to the Park for the Lasershow Spectacular. The digitally re-mastered Lasershow Spectacular presents “Our Music Is Georgia Music,” highlighting the diversity of Georgia’s musical landscape during a special tribute to many of the artists featured in our Georgia Music Hall of Fame exhibit located at Memorial Hall Museum. With displays of laser lights, graphics, characters and fireworks, the Lasershow Spectacular is not to be missed. The Stone Mountain Park signature event combines colorful lasers, surround sound and special effects into a 40 minute light show, precisely choreographed to music. (B,D)
